About Our Reparations Work
The Black Sports Ministry Network (BSMN) was named the Project Architect (Lead Consultant) for Episcopal City Mission’s (ECM) Reparations Initiative completing work from August 2025 until June 2026. Episcopal City Mission is a faith-based social justice organization based in Boston, formed in 1844.
The Black Sports Ministry Network’s Executive Director helped design and guide the framework through which community leaders would help ECM move from historical examination and acknowledgment to meaningful repair and accountability through $2.75 million in financial reparations.
As Project Architect and former ECM employee, BSMN’s Executive Director worked with volunteer archivists to examine ECM’s institutional history and connections to historical harms, while supporting staff and leadership in exploring reparations, restorative justice, and organizational models of atonement and repair. BSMN’s Executive Director also helped guide the development of ECM’s atonement statement and the structures for community participation and decision-making, including forming the Reparations Advisory Committee & Stewards (RACS).
Through this work, BSMN helped create a process rooted not only in research, reflection, and spiritual practices, but also in relationship-building, community wisdom, shared decision-making, liberation theologies, and a commitment to transforming acknowledgment into tangible reparative action. In the end 25 organizations within Boston and Greater Boston area received a portion of the $2.75M to dream, imagine, and build a future rooted in repair, restoration, and collective liberation
